After recent training for experienced orienteers, we're going back to basics to coincide with the start of the school year. This will be a low-key exercise, with map orientation, handrail identification and learning a few symbols cleverly disguised as fun.
At the carpark on the riverbank we'll allocate pairs or groups, more with less experienced. There's a 1.5km course in Belmont Domain of classic style. There's a shorter course in Belmont School of sprint style. And there's an in-between course that goes through the wetland. We'll recommend according to your experience.
It's aimed at secondary school kids and adults who haven't done any orienteering before. Smaller kids might find it a bit far for their concentration span. (Parents - its mostly at yellow level, with a couple of challenging controls around the wetland,) Print your own maps from the links below. Use the "best" setting on your printer, if you don't have access to one please ask. Compasses will not be used. Don't come if you're sick, are awaiting a test result, or have a family member who is sick.
We'll be finished before noon and will probably decamp to a cafe. There's no charge. An RSVP by noon Saturday will help with the crowd management:-)) (NB If you first looked at this calendar on Monday/Tuesday, this venue is a switch after we found out about other activities at our first choice.)
