What's the world coming to??? February is the best weather-month in New Zealand yet there are NO events on Sunday!!!
Until now. We'll re-run the first ever P-Max mini-rogaine. A rogaine is a time-limited, choose your own route, navigation event for teams. Usually long and rugged, P-Max is short (1hr) and round town - ideal for getting a taste. Or showing your friends/family how to read a map. Simple nav, its yellow level (level 2 on a scale of 1-4). It's fun running in a team.
In fact this first P-Max in 2011 was cleaned up in 40 minutes by a national orienteering squad member. You'll have to decide whether you can visit all checkpoints, and if not, which ones will give you the highest score. The area covers both sides of the river, and subject to inspection, the river may be declared crossable. It doesn't cross SH2 or High St but does cross Harcourt Werry Drive, so kids need to have "road sense".
Print the map yourselves, you can download it here. To add a bit of spice its as it was in 2011. The checkpoints are "question-and-answer", and we've checked that they are still relevant - we didn't want those to be tricky. If you want to enter the "A" class, download the descriptions here. Theoretically you only need one copy per team. If you want to enter the "Elite" class then DON'T download the questions. We'll give you the ANSWERS (at the start) and your task is to come back with the QUESTIONS heh heh. There's no entry fee.
We'll be done by 11am and you can do other stuff. Perhaps "Summer in the Dowse" where young orienteer Peyton Morete may be singing. Drum up your friends and make up a team now!
