The September After-work Rogaine is next Thursday 12 September.
If you have been enjoying the last few largely urban after-work rogaines, things are going to step up a couple of notches for the September afterwork rogaine.
We will be hitting the hills behind Eastbourne. Trust me, this will be well worth the effort to travel out there.
The start point for the After Work Rogaine on Thursday 12 Sept is the Lowry Bay wharf car park at the Eastbourne End of Lowry Bay.
Maps from 5:15pm, Rogaine starts 6pm with the 90min finishing at 7:30pm, and the three hour finishing at 9pm.
As part of the Greater Wellington Regional Councils concession which allows us to use their park they require all participants to carry a basic first aid kit and a survival blanket or bag. These are therefore required as compulsory equipment by all participants.
We also strongly recommend a compass. Some controls will have directional clues. It is very hard to find a control 50m SSW of an obvious point if you only have a vague idea of where SSW is. Navigation is also very difficult in the more remote areas on the map and a compass may save you from spending a cold night in the bush.
Most of the controls will be off road and some will be off track.
The limited number of controls on the streets are likely to have even the teams doing the 90 minute event getting onto the bush tracks .
The bush is a mixture of open beech forest, manuka, and other natives with patches of gorse and supplejack.
Tracks are often steep and narrow and difficult to follow in places.
