Pre-enter here for Spring Series 3: https://entries.wellingtonorienteering.org.nz/
Pre-entry closes at 3 pm on race day. After that you can come along and enter at the event, maps permitting.
Mixing things up a bit, this is a score event. Pre-enter to your usual Long or Short category for the series, but everybody will get 40 minutes.
Controls are worth either 10, 20, 30, or 40 points. There will be a 10 point per minute late penalty, heading up to 50 points per minute after 5 minutes.
The more technically or physically demanding the control, the more points it is worth. Controls worth 30 or 40 points are at least orange level and are likely to be in terrain where you will need orienteering shores with good quality grip. They may be accessed by indistinct possum bait lines.
- Steep and slippery terrain, likely exacerbated by rain. Wear shoes with good grip.
- Controls in locations requiring technical navigation. Avoid 30 or 40 point controls unless a confident navigator.
- Broken glass and loose rock underfoot on the ground, especially in reentrants. Control speed, watch where you put feet and hands.
- Historical gun emplacements. Not so much a hazard, but please avoid running on these.
We have set a last start time of 6.40 pm to give everybody time to compete and us to collect controls. If you need a later start, let us know and we can negotiate on some control collecting as part of your run!
