DIY training session based on recent mapping around the Summit Rd firebreak and tracks made by mountainbikers and bush restorers (they criss-cross!) We will have a ribboned course similar to the Te Whiti one (2-3km and 200m climb). Short-cuttable to match the climb to your fitness. Not much off-track but this network will require you to be certain where you are, so its beyond yellow - really orange. Pairs or posses as we decide on the day (and we need a good red orienteer or two to head off in front of the rest of us to place the ribbons). There's also a nice flat 1.5km circuit along the Waiwhetu Stream which is yellow level. We'll be finished before noon and will probably decamp to somewhere like Janus Bakerij. There's no charge.
Print your own maps from the links below. Use the "best" setting on your printer, if you don't have access to one please ask. For the orange C1 you'll need a compass, and OHV has a rule that whistles are carried in non-urban events. For the yellow C2 you're close to houses all the time so these are handy but not essential. Don't come if you're sick, are awaiting a test result, or have been in Auckland. Wear a mask while not on the course.
