At the NZSS Championships there is a “Small Teams” compettion with a boys and girls trophy for teams of 5 or fewer.

This is very encouraging for the schools where orienteering is more of a minority sport, helps to raise the profile of the sport at those schools by putting them in contention for something.

There is no similar award at NISS – I’m in favour of instituting one.  What do others think?  What would be the procedure for getting this in place?  Can the club running the event decide or does this have to go all the way to the top first?

Along the same lines; there’s only one Year 7&8 trophy for combined girls+boys. It would be good to see this split to have a separate girls & boys competition for the same reasons that there are different competitions at secondary school level.
