The Association of Intermediate and Middle Schools (AIMS) Games is held annually in Tauranga, with the orienteering events on the Monday 7 & Tuesday 8 September. This is is the largest annual sporting event in Australasia. This year the AIMs sprint course will be in new terrain, based at Tauranga Racecourse and neighboring golf course. The courses will negotiate the beautiful park terrain, which offers interesting tree clusters, buildings, and undulating contour features. A maze and finish through the grandstands will provide additional interest, and great spectator viewing.”

This year’s Team Rogaine has been planned by 16-year-old OBOP orienteer Cara, who gained experience last year helping Gene Beveridge plan the sprint. She is back planning the course this year with support from her uncle Pim and dad Dennis. The event returns to an area used two years ago, featuring a bushwalk, a spectacular waterfall and hillside terrain, with a large lake forming one side of the map. This year, the Rogaine features varying point values for controls. Teams will need to carefully plan their routes to maximise their score before heading out There will be 10 minutes to study their maps to work out their strategy before the clock starts.
