Hi everyone,

Link to Club Forum the summary document

Many thanks for your participation in the Club Forum last night. It was a fantastic discussion, some great comments and valuable insights into the direction of the sport and what we could be focused on. My one disappointment was that we could have done with a lot more time – hence some of the discussions were cut short, and I sense that a bit of content was missed.

We have summarised the whiteboard notes and put them under theme headings, and these are integrated into the presentation document which we used, and is attached. As mentioned, all of this will be fed into the business planning process which the Council follow to set direction and priorities. There is more discussion to be had around some of this, for instance the possibility of increasing member numbers 3 fold to 10,000 members is inspiring, but forces us to confront how we run our clubs and look towards evolved operating models which can handle that kind of growth, and not run the risk of burning out more volunteers. It is very interesting stuff, and we would love to see the discussion started last night, expanded across clubs throughout the country.

There are a couple of things which we encourage your clubs to do following this Club Forum:

  1. Share this presentation and information with key people in your club, and ask if they have any additional thoughts around the areas where ONZ could be prioritizing for our business planning. We will need this back ASAP, as our planning meeting is on Dec 1st. If you miss this deadline, you could instead share any thoughts through the consultation phase of business planning, which goes until the end of January.
  2. Use this information to drive some discussions within your committees, so you can explore future possibilities and priorities at your club level. If you want any support or assistance in that process, get in touch and we can help.

We also attach the summary from the Presidents forum again, as well as the Business Planning Guidelines document which gives more detail on ONZs approach to business and strategic planning – as emphasised last night, it is through these processes we ensure member involvement and input happens.

Please get in touch if you want to discuss this – as stated above, this is the start of a discussion and we would love to see this continue across the club network. Stay tuned for the outcomes of the ONZ business planning meeting, and draft plan which we would love your further input to.

Thanks again,

Peter Swanson
