On behalf of Orienteering Bay of Plenty and Taupo Orienteering and, hosts of the Tūāraki North
Regional Orienteering Championships 2025, we advise the following embargoes applying to
competition areas.

An embargo restricts athletes access to competition areas prior to the competition taking place, to
ensure unfair advantage is not gained by people visiting the area prior to competition. All athletes
attending these events must abide by these embargoes, and anyone breaching these risks
disqualification.

Sprint Distance Championships – Rotorua, 8th November 2025

The Toi Ohomai Campus and Tihiotonga Centennial Park, Rotorua, (outlined in purple below) is
embargoed with the following restrictions, with immediate effect:

● Because the event takes place in public areas people may need to access for legitimate
reasons other than orienteering, access to the embargoed areas is permitted until 3.00pm
Friday 7th November 2025. However, the possession or use of maps, and route choice
testing during the term of the embargo is not allowed.
● After 3.00pm Friday 7th November 2025 access into the embargoed Sprint area is strictly
forbidden for all competitors and associates, until the competition is over.
● All competitors must use only the routes specified by the organisers to reach the Event
Arena on the day of the competition (to be advised in the final Bulletin).

Middle Distance Championships – Okataina, 8th November 2025

The area within the Lake Okataina Scenic Reserve, outlined in purple on the map below, is
embargoed with the following restrictions, with immediate effect:

● No access at all to the embargoed area prior to competition events taking place, except for
the following:
o The Lake Okataina Outdoor Camp and immediate grounds
o Lake Okataina Lodge and immediate grounds
o Main tracks and road between the Outdoor camp and Lakes Okataina Lodge
● No off track travel permitted in this area prior to the event taking place. .
● During competition competitors may only access the competition area via routes specified in
the final Bulletin.
● Competitors are not permitted to re-enter the competition area after they have competed,
unless they have express permission from the event controller to do so.
● Note – OBOP is working with the Lake Okataina Scenic Reserve Trust and Ngāti Tarāwhai to
identify areas of sensitive biological and cultural importance. It is essential that orienteers
respect these before, during, and after the event.

Long Distance Championships – Opepe, 9th November 2025

The area titled Opepe, outlined in purple on the map below, is on strictly private land. The area is
embargoed with the following restrictions with immediate effect:
● No access at all to the embargoed area prior to competition events taking place.
● During competition competitors may only access the competition area via routes specified in
the final Bulletin.
● Competitors are not permitted to re-enter the competition area after they have competed,
unless they have express permission from the event controller to do so.
● Because this is private land, it is strictly forbidden for anyone to re-enter the embargoed
area after the competition is over.
