Junior Camp 2024 | Looking for a Lead Coach

The 2024 Junior Camp (Year 9-13) is being hosted by Orienteering Taranaki and is taking place in New Plymouth between Fri 13th and Wed 18th December 2024.

Orienteering New Zealand would like to invite applications for the Junior Camp Manager position. This position is are voluntary in nature, although position holders will be reimbursed for their airfares (if outside New Plymouth), and will also receive a modest koha.

2024 ONZ Junior Camp Lead Coach

  • This role is to design, and lead the delivery of, the training schedule for the week, plan the courses, evening presentations and other social activities. This is done in liaison with the Camp Manager, appointed coach training officer, and the supporting club liaison.
  •  Organise all the field activities and logistics with the assistance of the appointed coach training officer, Supporting Club Liaison.
  •  Recruit the coaching team drawn primarily from U23 Camp participants attending their camp in liaison with Performance Leader. Up to 16 coaches in total (including Lead Coach) are required.
  •  The Lead Coach must have coached at a high level and have experience at designing a programme of exercises for the ability range at camp.
  • Experience with managing large groups is useful.

For the Lead Coach in particular, the following will apply

  • While it is ideal that this person resides in or near the region hosting the Camp, this is not essential.
  • Draft training exercises to be completed by the end of September with possible assistance of selected U23 squad members.
