As we build up to this year’s Junior Camp, we are now asking for applications for this year’s Lead Coach.  

The 2025 Junior Camp (Year 9-13) is being hosted by Auckland Orienteering Club and is being run out of Houghton’s Bush Camp in Muriwai between Thu 11th and Thu 15th December 2025.

Orienteering New Zealand would like to invite applications for the Junior Camp Lead Coach position. This position is voluntary in nature, although position holders will be reimbursed for their airfares (if outside Auckland), and will also receive a modest koha.

2025 ONZ Junior Camp Lead Coach Position Description:

  • This role is to design, and lead the delivery of, the training schedule for the week, plan the courses, evening presentations and other social activities. This is done in conjunction with the Camp Manager and the help of the Supporting Club Liaison.
  • Organise all the field activities and logistics with the assistance of the appointed coach training officer, Supporting Club Liaison.
  • In conjunction with the ONZ Performance Leader, recruit the coaching team drawn primarily from High Performance (formerly U23) Camp. participants attending their camp. Up to 12 coaches in total (including Lead Coach) are required.
  • Run Coach the Coaches sessions the day prior to the camp to ensure that all volunteer coaches can confidently and safely coach at the junior camp.
  • The Lead Coach must have coached at a high level and have experience at designing a programme of exercises for the ability range at camp.
  • Experience with managing large groups is useful.

For the Lead Coach in particular, the following will apply

  • While it is ideal that this person resides in or near the region hosting the Camp, this is not essential.
  • Draft training exercises to be completed by the end of October if possible
