The creation of the new Technical and Mapping Committee has produced an opportunity for up to two mappers to join the committee that oversees the technical standards of our sport. The key requirements for these positions are:
Promote mapping standards and best practice for orienteering mapping in NZ.
- Act as a resource for clubs and Orienteering NZ Board with respect to mapping standards for orienteering in NZ.
- Provide advice and direction on the use of mapping technologies and changes in these technologies to Orienteering NZ Board and clubs.
- Advise Orienteering NZ Board on changes to the IOF mapping rules and respond to IOF led changes and their implications and provide NZ feedback to IOF mapping committees on proposed specification changes or other issues.
- Work with mappers to ensure mapping standards are maintained.
- Liaise with Rogaine, MTBO or other committees where there are issues in common.
- Coordinate a national programme to train and maintain a number of skilled mappers.
