NZOC 2022 – COVID Red Light Setting

Nelson Orienteering Club has delayed the close of early bird entries to the New Zealand Orienteering Champs until 11:59pm on Friday, 11th February 2022.

You can still enter with confidence of a full refund prior to then at: https://entero.co.nz/evento.php?eventName=NZOC2022

As with our local club events NOCs priorities are:

  • That our volunteers feel safe and are willing to run the events;
  • That our landowners, who we rely on, feel comfortable with us using their land; and
  • That our participants feel safe to attend.

When Nelson Orienteering Club opened entries to the New Zealand Orienteering Champs over a month ago, we advised that it could only take place under Covid protection framework levels Green or Orange within the Nelson/Tasman District and if there are no border restrictions for any local authority with an ONZ affiliated Orienteering Club. With the Omicron outbreak we recognise that the playing field has changed. All competitors, spectators and volunteers older than 12 years and 3 months would need to show a valid My Vaccine Pass for entry to all events.

We are now in discussions with Orienteering New Zealand on how the NZ Champs can be run under the Red light setting. We need to check in with our volunteers and our landowners too and we hope to make an announcement that we’re all go with a Red Light Nationals by the close of early bird entries.

We would like to acknowledge North West Orienteering Club for allowing us to set Labour Weekend 2022 as the reserve date for the Nationals 2022 if we decide to postpone the event.

If you are looking to book flights or accommodation we recommend that you get insurance to cover cancellation of the event and that you choose to stay in the Kaiteriteri-Motueka area.
