Entries for the Oceania Sprint Orienteering Championships which are to be held in New Plymouth and Auckland in January 2024 have opened and we now have a few early entries. There are 2 Oceania events in New Plymouth and one in Auckland along with 5 supporting events open to the elite and the public.
Notable early entries are:
Tim Robertson, currently residing in Sweden, currently ranked 3rd in the world, a well-known speedy Kiwi orienteer and a member of Hutt Valley Orienteering Club. And also from Sweden, Emma Bjessmo, (now officially Tim’s other half!) and ranked 15th in the world.
From Orienteering Taranaki, our very own Lizzie Ingham is on the start line. Lizzie is more of a long and technical specialist holding the current 1st in Oceania in the long discipline ranking, but home ground advantage could pull-out stunning sprint results.
The events have World Ranking Points as well as giving the winners direct places into the World Orienteering Championships. We expect this will bring a strong field from NZ, Australia and significant European entries.
