ONZ Strategic Planning  | Invitation to be involved

The ONZ Board has begun the process of preparing a new strategic plan for the sport and national body, for the period 2026-2030.

As a first step, an initial strategic direction document has been drafted by the Board, informed by recent years interactions with clubs and members through forums and member surveys. We now seek input to Members and other stakeholders. This can happen via two ways:

  1. Participation in the Club Forum (members) or the President and Club Leaders Forum (club committees/delegates)  – the strategic direction document will be the main topic of discussion with attendees. We are also keen to take the opportunity to discuss the format of the National Champs Relay while we have an engaged group of members together.
  2. Providing written feedback – we ask individuals to discuss the draft document, form views, and send this via email to gm@orienteering.org.nz or sarah.osullivan@orienteering.org.nz

There are further details and instructions in the discussion document. We strongly encourage people to take up this opportunity to participate, and help shape the direction of the sport for the next 4 years. Having a robust and well formulated Strategic Plan is essential for ONZ to ensure it focuses on the most important priorities, and aligned with the Clubs and orienteering communities needs.

We look forward to discussing this with you and getting your feedback in the coming weeks. Please send through any feedback by 30 October 2025
