Selection Notice – JUNIOR WORLD ORIENTEERING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2017

The Junior World Orienteering Championships for 2017 will be held in Finland 9-16 July 2017

Selection Criteria

The trials will be held in the Wellington region on the weekend of 25-26 March 2017.

Trial races will consist of a Sprint distance, a Middle distance and a Long distance. The Sprint and Middle distance races will be held within 20km of central Wellington on Saturday. The Long distance race will be close to Levin on Sunday. These events will be held in conjunction with trials for the ANZ Schools Test Match team (see separate notice)

Athletes may be selected for both the JWOC team and the ANZ Test Match team for the competition to be held in Rotorua 19-20 April 2017. However JWOC team members will not be considered for selection in the New Zealand team for the Southern Cross Challenge to be held in Australia in September 2017.

The following existing orienteering areas are embargoed from the date of the this notice until the events have been held:

  • Whitireia Polytechnecis campus
  • Waitarere Forest to the south of Waitarere Beach township

 

All orienteers interested in selection for the 2017 JWOC team must register their interest, year of birth, and cell phone number to the Convenor of Selectors Al Cory-Wright (jean.al@xtra.co.nz) by 15 January 2017.

For JWOC 2017 this fee will be NZ$1700 and includes team competition costs such as accommodation and travel during the JWOC competition and pre-JWOC camp; Team Staff travel, accommodation and accreditation costs; training maps, etc.  Payment of the Athlete Contribution Fee must be made no later than 1 June 2017.
