The World Orienteering Championships 2018 will be held in Riga and Sigulda, Latvia from 3-11 August 2018.
As per the Orienteering NZ G1 Selection Policy and in particular the 2018 WOC Team will be selected on the basis of known form and the results of the selection trial.
Known form will include results from
- the 2017 Orienteering New Zealand Championships;
- previous performances at WOC and other comparable international events.
The selection trial will be held at ONZ National Championships, Auckland 30 March-1 April 2018.
Overseas based athletes should nominate up to 2 World Ranking Events (WRE) at any date up to and including 1 April 2018.
The team will be selected based on the following criteria:
- For sprint – athletes who are judged by the selectors to have the technical ability and level of fitness to qualify for the Sprint Final.
- For middle and long – . athletes who are judged by the selectors to have the technical ability and level of fitness to finish in at least the top 75% of the field.
All orienteers interested in selection for the 2018 WOC team shall notify their interest, year of birth, and cell phone number to the Convenor of Selectors Al Cory-Wright ([email protected]) by 1 February 2018.
The WOC 2018 Athlete Contribution fee will include a NZ$500 deposit to be paid prior to WOC and a final payment upon confirmation of costs post-WOC. Team competition include accommodation and travel during the WOC competition; Team Staff travel, accommodation and accreditation costs; training maps, etc. It does not include international airfares to/from New Zealand or elsewhere to the competition or pre-WOC training camp costs.
Payment of the Athlete Contribution Fee deposit must be made no later than 1 July 2018.
