Congratulations to Baradene College & St Cuthberts College (Girls) and Mt Albert Grammar & Auckland Grammar Schools (Boys) who have been selected to represent New Zealand at the World Schools Orienteering Championships.
The World Schools Orienteering Championships will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 19 – 27 August 2023.
This Selection Notice is in compliance with the Orienteering NZ Teams Selection Policy 2017.
The World Schools Orienteering Championship is held under the auspices of the International School Sport Federation (ISF).
New Zealand is able to enter a maximum of 12 athletes for each gender that must be born 2008-2010. For the boys this will be 6 athletes for each school. For the girls, Baradene have been allocated 8 athletes and St Cuthberts 4.
The selections are for a specific schools and not individual runners. It is the responsibility of the selected school to choose which specific runners will make up their team.
Representative School Selection Criteria
Due to the late confirmation of the dates and location of the World Schools Championships for 2023 (Bulletin 1 published December 2022), and the requirement for schools to self-fund this event (and therefore requiring significant notice for planning and fundraising time), selection for Representative Schools has been based on known form with particular emphasis on performances at the NZ Secondary Schools Orienteering Championships hosted by Counties Manakau Orienteering Club in July 2022.
Schools will selected must comply fully with the ISF regulations for the WSOC.
Funding
Orienteering New Zealand expect the selected schools/athletes to self-fund this event.
