View from the Chair – Oct 2024

I’ve been very envious of the school teams, support crew and other NZ orienteers who have just been away in Australia. It’s not just running around a course that I love about orienteering, I have always enjoyed the opportunity to hang out with friends and fellow orienteers in places you’d probably never travel to for a holiday and discover some interesting, weird or neat little corner of the world. I hope everyone who went over to the Australian National Champs had a great time and achieved whatever goal they set out to achieve.

Looking ahead for the Board we have been starting to think about business planning and priorities for 2025, as well as a refresh of the 2021-2025 strategic plan. The refreshed High Performance Plan will feed into future planning as well as the President’s forum held last month. Low RSVPs for the club forum meant we have cancelled it, but we still welcome any feedback via myself, other Board members, Christo or other ONZ personnel. We’ll be working on the draft business plan at our meeting on 27 November and circulating it for feedback before the end of the year.

With Oceania coming up at the end of January in the Manawatū, now is the time to start training!
