It’s only a matter of sleeps now until Nationals and events on the much anticipated Crater Block Rerewhahaaitu map. It’s also so neat to see so many people attending Nationals. It’s not just for our elites. I love seeing the competition between people in all the grades. I’m so impressed with the numbers coming from what used to be smaller clubs like Nelson where I grew up – and where I fell in love with orienteering. 35 people this year make up the contingent from Nelson! Up from two (my dad and I) in the mid-2000s. A big thanks in anticipation to the team of people doing all the planning and organising for Nationals. It’s pretty humbling to think about all the time, effort and expertise club volunteers put in so that 600 people can run around in the forest for a couple of days.
