X-Talon 212 seems to be the shoe of choice for most in NZ. Some find the tread wears out quickly, but that’s because they wear them for urban races as well. I find the X-Talons too narrow and use the inov-8 mudclaw instead. The orocs would be good in the south as they have metal spikes for better snow and ice traction but are much less common in NZ. You can see most of the inov-8s at Bivouac stores now. And my latest pair of O shoes (the Salomon Fellraiser) is now available via Kathmandu stores – I got mine from wiggle.

No shoe is good in every situation so…
My current O shoe list: Mudclaw-forest, Fellraiser-Farm, Trailroc-Urban parks, Brooks Pureflow-hard surfaces (schools/roads etc)
They last longer and work better if you use them for what they’re good at.
