Almost certainly for the first time, both the top NZL men’s and women’s teams have finished in the official top 10 in the JWOC relay. This consists of one team per country. For the men, Felix Hunt gave New Zealand a steady start, handing over to Ryan Moore who had the team in 22nd place […]
Zefa Fa’avae has produced the best result New Zealand has ever had in a JWOC long distance with an amazing 5th place in today’s race in Romania. Zefa was within about 40s of bronze. His run follows the disappointment of the sprint relay dsq, which was so nearly another podium finish to go with Penelope […]
Penelope Salmon and Nathan Borton were the top Kiwi performers in the JWOC sprint held overnight in Romania. Pride of place went to Penelope, who became only the third New Zealand women to make a JWOC podium, finishing in 6th place. This was the same as Angela Simpson achieved in the 2011 sprint in Poland, […]

Just over the horizon is also WOC […]

With lockdowns continuing to varying degrees around the country September has been another difficult month. However, we escaped and a report follows below. WOC2021 is also on the immediate horizon, with Toby Scott and Tim Robertson the only NZL […]

Are New Zealand international athletes disadvantaged by taking COVID-19 seriously?Recently the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) circulated the minutes of their November Council Meeting showing a clear preference to press on with the international calendar despite Covid-19. This approach may come at a cost – true international representation. IOF is proposing that world championships in all […]

Well, if I thought April was difficult to find anything to write about, it was nothing on May! Malcolm Ingham […]

July is the traditionally busy month in world orienteering although this year the later date for WOC has made things a little less congested. Nervertheless, JWOC, WMTBOC, O-Ringen and World Rogaine Champs have all fallen within it. Having been in east of Canada for when JWOC was on I found it quite hard to follow […]
