Welcome to the first issue of what I hope will be a regular newsletter keeping you all informed about changes and advancements in the world of orienteering.

The existing Selection Notices for the New Zealand Secondary Schools Team 2020 and the World Schools Championships Orienteering 2021 have been withdrawn.

The World Schools Championship Orienteering 2021 is scheduled to be held in Belgrade, Serbia.  ONZ will select a school in each grade (M1, W1, M2, W2) to compete in the school teams category.

Recently ONZ was invited to distribute this great free resource – the undated version of “Cool, Awesome and Educational”, Orienteering at school for ages 6-15.  We have had a look at it and encourage all clubs to do the same.

Counties Manukau Orienteering Club Inc (CMOC) looks forward to welcoming competitors to North Island Secondary Schools Orienteering Championships 2020 on 22-24 April 2020 being held at venues in Manukau, Waiuku Forest, and Waiuku farms.

Entries for Oceania 2019 Carnival close 31st August 2019.  Competition starts in New South Wales, Australia with the Oceania Sprint at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga on the afternoon of Saturday 28 September 2019 and concludes with the Oceania Middle in Victoria at Beechworth on the morning of Sunday 6 October 2019.

Students from Geraldine High School are set to participate in the Geraldine Rogaine Autumn Muster.An event which will see people plotting a route during a race throughout a South Canterbury town will help raise funds for its high school.The Geraldine High School’s PTA has organised another Rogaine Autumn Muster which will take place this Sunday.

A number of promising juniors have been invited to join the New Zealand Schools Regional Invitation Team to travel to the Australian Orienteering Carnival in late September/ early October in Adelaide and region.

Three year 9 girls are turing heads in the orienteering world, after they came away from the North Island Secondary Schools Orienteering Championships with an award.

Despite limited orienteering experience, Waiuku College’s Millie Thompson, Charlize Aicken and Beanie Rattrie came away with the small school section from the event, where the three girls’ aggregate score topped the leaderboard for the category.
