Although orienteering activity has been somewhat scarce during November there has been a lot going on behind the scenes. This includes putting together as far as possible details of training camps in the first half of the year, organizing dates for trials for various teams, and an entertaining weekend of having various members of the HP Squads test running courses for WMOC2017 in Woodhill Forest.
The role is to assist with athlete training and preparation of the 2017 NZ representative team at JWOC. Full details available in position description.
The highlight of October without a doubt has been Tim Robertson’s performance in coming 4th in the final race of the 2016 IOF World Cup, leaving him in 16th place overall in the series. However, October has also seen a highly successful Alpine O Weekend in the high country of Craigieburn, and considerable progress in planning for 2017. The later includes finalising the 2017 High Performance Squads, venues for various trials, and proposals for a HP camp.
The Junior and Under 23 Regional Squads Camps will be held in Canterbury, December 2016. Applications for participants and coaches are invited now and close on 31 July 2016.
OK – let’s start by wishing you all a Happy New Year and hope that you have or are still enjoying a great NZ summer. The warm weather is an excuse to ease off for a while and make the most of our wonderful outdoors.

As foreshadowed in last months HP News the next tier below the National Senior and Under-23 squads are Regional Junior squads. These will be part of wider Regional Squads which also include the members of the National Senior and Under-23 Squads. From the start of next year the aim is for the Regional Squads to have regular organized training activities.
