Anzac Weekend has seen the second round of the National O League (NOL) with long, sprint and middle distance races at the South island Champs in Alexandra. In M21E Matt Ogden and Joseph Lynch continued their close battle although with roles a little reversed from the ONZ Champs – Joseph taking the long and middle distances and Matt the sprint. Chris Forne continued his good form with a second and third place. In W21E it was business as usual for Lizzie Ingham with 3 clear wins. Renee Beveridge and Briana Steven were the closest to Lizzie in the 21’s, but Kaia Joergensen, winning all 3 W20 races, was second fastest on the same course in the sprint and third fastest in the middle. Will Tidswell also recorded 3 wins in M20, with Zefa Fa’avae continuing his string of strong performances.
At this stage the NOL tables are dominated by those who attended both the ONZ Champs and the SI Champs but it already seems clear that in W21E, W20E and M20E the forthcoming battles will be for the minor placings as Lizzie (6 wins out of 7 races), Kaia (4 out of 6) and Will (5 out of 6) will be hard to displace from the top. In M21E Matt (3) and Joseph (4) have shared the wins with matt on top, helped by Joseph’s mp in the ONZ long distance. Jonty Oram holds a comfortable 3rd place at this stage.
