The World Orienteering Championships 2020 will be held in the Triangle Region of Denmark from 6-11 July 2020, and will consist of an individual sprint, a knock-out sprint and a sprint relay.

Selection Criteria

As per the Orienteering NZ G1 Selection Policy the 2020 WOC team will be selected on Known Form from the following events.

For New Zealand based athletes:

  • Lonely Mountain Knock-out Sprint, New Plymouth, 25 January 2020
  • ONZ National Championships Sprint, Manawatu 10 April, 2020
  • KO Sprint and Individual Sprint trials, Manawatu, 18/19 April 2020
  • previous performances at WOC and other comparable international events

Overseas based athletes:

  • must nominate and advise the selectors of up to 3 World Ranking Events (WRE) at any date up to and including 19 April 2020. (These events must be advised to selectors when notifying interest as detailed below)
  • previous performances at WOC and other comparable international events

Athletes will be expected to:

  • demonstrate the technical ability and level of fitness required to finish in at least the top 75% of the field in at least one of the KO and individual sprint races;

All athletes interested in selection for the 2020 WOC team shall notify their interest, year of birth, and cell phone number to the Convenor of Selectors Al Cory-Wright ( by 18 January 2020.

The WOC 2020 Athlete Contribution fee will include a NZ$500 deposit to be paid prior to WOC and a final payment upon confirmation of costs post-WOC.  The Athlete Contribution Fee covers accommodation and travel during the WOC competition, a contribution to managerial/coaching travel, accommodation and accreditation costs, training maps, etc. It does not include international airfares to/from New Zealand or elsewhere to the competition or pre-WOC training camp costs.

Payment of the Athlete Contribution Fee deposit must be made no later than 1 July 2020.
