We invite everyone to take part in a week of spectacular orienteering in the South Island at Southern Orienteering Week 2016. Six events spread across a diverse range of terrains including spectacular alpine settings, intricate Kanuka forest, technical rock outcrops and historic gold tailings.
The first three days take place in the Wanaka region, with the last three days in the Central Otago towns of Alexandra and Cromwell, a 40min-1hr drive from Wanaka. Summer is a busy time in the South Island with many people choosing to holiday in the region and accommodation will be booked up fast, although there are also many options for those wishing to camp.
If you are flying to the South Island Queenstown is the closest airport, located a 1hr drive away from Wanaka, however Dunedin and Christchurch are also options, particularly if you decide to extend your holidays a few days either side of the events.
Entry to Southern Orienteering Week 2016 will open on the 11th October. Entry numbers for the week are strictly limited to 200 people as a result of Council/Department of Conservation requirements, so get in quick.
When not orienteering, enjoy swimming in the stunning lakes and rivers, visit the local wineries and café’s or explore the many walking and MTB tracks in the area. Come and enjoy a summer orienteering holiday in the South Island in 2016, we hope to see you all there!
Regards,
