And the winners are:

1. People shot  Prolific photographer Annemarie Hogenbirk from Nelson Orienteering has won a prize for a photo of a very young orienteer. The photo was taken at the OY5 Canaan Downs, 22 November 2025, as part of Nelson Orienteering Club’s ‘Golden Bay Revisited’. The photo shows James Duncan, at that time 2 years and 4 months old. Diligent Annemarie received permission from his parents to enter this photo into this competition. She loves this photo, because it shows the sheer joy for the sport at this very young age. Cuteness won the contest this year.

2. Landscape shot  Kaye Harding from Orienteering Waikato took this shot of a rainbow. A great symbol for the dream perfect run which is always just out of reach. Kaye says she was putting out controls at Waikoha Station, Karamu near Whatawhata for the Rugged Rogaine – 2hr/4hr/8hr 2025 National short course Rogaine champs and NZ Secondary School Rogaine champs. Kaye was the course controller, and that was a control 161 in the sunshine and rain on top of a hill! 

3. Runner-up landscape shot We had a lot of landscape entries so we have a runner-up which goes to BJ Bauzon from CMOC. This photo was taken at the 2025 Nationals at  Waikuku Beach nd captures the dramatic light shards angling through the trees.

3. Abstract shot  Ana Barnett took this photo at the Aims Games 2025, Rogaine event, 2 September 2025. As the people are so small in the landscape this photo is accepted as partially abstract, as the orienteers are at a minature scale in this landscape. It is a strong image depicting the places we go and the heights we climb in orienteering.
