Orienteering events offer courses that vary in length and navigational difficulty. This guide helps participants choose a course suited to their skill level, while also introducing key map features.
For newcomers who are unfamiliar with orienteering maps, the following novice starter advice is available:
Quick course guide for beginners
If you know orienteers who are keen to get started right away and don’t have time to review the map examples:
• Families and children: White / Easy It is best starting with White courses for forest or farm events, and Easy courses for sprint orienteering.
• Adults: Yellow / Moderate for sprint events. Yellow is the best choice for forest / farm and Moderate for sprint events. After completing a few courses, it’s a good idea to return to these map guides to reassess your progress and adjust your course choice accordingly.
