Around the same time O-Zone was in development, Nathan was working independently on a similar challenge to improve the analysis of orienteering results. That’s when Onalyst was born. As a data science student, Nathan saw huge potential in orienteering result data. He started experimenting with ways to predict team eligibility for events like the 2025 World Games. In the process he has created a whole new athlete ranking system. Realising the value to many, he launched onalyst.io to make it accessible to a wider orienteering community.

While he appreciates tools like Winsplits, Nathan saw room for improvement: “What if we could search by person instead of by event? What if we could instantly compare athletes’ performance summaries—or even dive into side-by-side sprint finish stats?”

With that in mind, he built a database using over 25 years of New Zealand Winsplits data, allowing users to:

• View an athlete’s full results history
• Generate fun, insightful performance summaries
• Compare stats between athletes with ease

Nathan’s own profile on Onalyst  reveals he’s still short on wins (his words!), and unfortunately for him, but not for Felix, it doesn’t look like he’s dethroning ‘Big Dog Felix’ anytime soon.

June update: Nathan is working on a feature that emails athletes as soon as results are uploaded – complete with a breakdown of their race performance. It’s still in development, but he’d love your feedback!
