Welcome back Auckland University Orienteering Club

In April this year we noticed the Auckland University Orienteering Club facebook swing back into action. They were having a fourth reincarnation with the aim to create “a fun community for orienteers in the big smoke” . What was happening behind the scenes was to get the club approved by Auckland University, and now they are an official university club. With new President Aidan Skinner and  Vice President Zara Collin they are onto a good start.

In a nutshell, it’s been revived by a group of orienteers who did orienteering all through high school and have stayed in Auckland for university. They currently have 22 members, a mixture of NZ reps, beginners, and everyone in-between. The aim for the club is to be a social community of orienteers at UoA (and anyone else uni-aged in Auckland).

They’re going to treat 2023 as a planning/set-up year to acquire shirts and experiment with a few events, with a proper launch for Semester 1 2024.  There are ideas about holding an annual iconic event with AOC with plenty more cool ideas are in the pipeline. After the very first executive meeting, they will be making plans for the year ahead.

We’re looking forward to some possible inter-university competition! C’mon Victoria & Otago Uni, the race is on!
