Although orienteering activity has been somewhat scarce during November there has been a lot going on behind the scenes. This includes putting together as far as possible details of training camps in the first half of the year, organizing dates for trials for various teams, and an entertaining weekend of having various members of the HP Squads test running courses for WMOC2017 in Woodhill Forest.
The role is to assist with athlete training and preparation of the 2017 NZ representative team at JWOC. Full details available in position description.
The ANZ Schools Test Match will be held in Rotorua on 19-20 April 2017. Dr Camilla Knight talks about the support of parents of talented young athletes. The focus for young people at competitions is to enjoy it and perform to the best of their ability. Parents are important before and after training and competitions to offer support and help their child, reviewing with them what it going well and things they may want to work on.
British Orienteering shared a series of 4 short video clips of Hector Haines (GBR) talking about how his parents helped him get into orienteering and some advice for parents of young orienteers.
Time for thoughts about where we currently are at and what changes/modifications to we need to make to both the High Performance plan and how we generally approach HP orienteering in New Zealand. The Junior and Under 23 Regional Squads Camps will be held in Canterbury, December 2016. Applications for participants and coaches are invited now and close on 31 July 2016.

Two vacancies for New Zealand Schools Team 2016 competing in Queensland (Australian Championships carnival) 24 September to 2 October 2016.
A revision of courses grades for schools orienteering championships is proposed. This is rationalised on purpose of the championships, increasing experience and training opportunities for juniors, and the success of Year 7/8 championships in recent years. No changes to the grades for sprint or relay competitions are proposed.
